“Wings of Desire” — My Favorite Film

--

“Wings of Desire” from You Tube

I first saw this film years ago and instantly fell in love with it.

Ever since then, I have longed for my very own personal angel, Damiel (the character in the film portrayed by the wonderful actor Bruno Gantz)…

As one of my dear friends said to me after we viewed this together, “This is a film about humanity and what it means to be human” and yes, she’s right.

Throughout the years, I have often made a regular habit of watching this film once a year, to remind myself that in spite of everything, there IS beauty in the world. Grace. Transcendence. And perhaps most importantly above all: LOVE.

I’ve talked a lot this week in my posts about returning to things in my life that inspire beauty and how very important these elements of beauty are to my life

Right now, as a society and collectively as a culture, we are seemingly at a nadir of love/compassion/empathy. How did we get here? Was it always like this, underneath the surface veneer of everything? It so often feels now as if there is no way back from this place that has been created, this place, this planet that we call “home” — sometimes, I ask myself: “How could everything have gone SO wrong SO unbearably quickly?” And, there are no answers.
