What’s Happening in Israel Affects Us

This is my friend January and myself. We met this past summer, quite by chance and random encounter. We’ve developed a connection based on similar backgrounds and characteristics. She moved here from California.

I was born in Connecticut, and we often share stories of a feeling of “culture shock” since moving to this area, which has become even more pronounced these last several years. She’s funny, intelligent and brave.

She’s battled cancer and most recently, she had surgery and then ended up in the hospital with Covid (yes, Covid is still a thing, I urge everyone to please continue to get vaccinated and no, it’s not fun, but please do it).

Currently, she’s back at home thankfully and this morning she texted to let me know this: “My son is on his way back to Israel to go to war. I’m so nervous and worried.” My heart aches for her, as it aches for everyone who is trying to live through this nightmarish scenario of events. I texted her that I’m here for her if she needs to talk. We exchanged heart emoji.

I can’t even begin to contemplate how she, and others, must be feeling.

I wish that I could give her the biggest hug in the world right now.

I wish that I could stop all of this endless madness from occurring.

What I CAN do is to be there for her. And to keep apprised of events.

It’s Monday, the sun is shining and yet, seemingly a world away, people are fighting/fleeing for their lives. Please remember them. Say a prayer to the universe (whatever your religion may be) or just send out positive vibes.

They need it. They deserve it. They are trying to survive.
