Don’t walk away in silence

Her name is Paige, or, as I often called her “P in P” as a reference to the Molly Ringwald movie “Pretty in Pink.” We met at work and became work friends, and then, through the years, managed the rather remarkable feat of seguing from “work friends” to “personal friends” and last night, she ended our decades long friendship via text message. There are reasons for this, I suppose, but right now, for me, the reasons don’t negate the feelings.

She actually quite methodically, rationally, logically, was even kind enough to provide me a bullet point list, almost a verbal power point presentation of her reasons. Yes, she comes from a family of lawyers and yes, I suppose as my friend Cheryl pointed out, perhaps this was her way of “protecting” herself.

But, to me, it feels emotionally cold, emotionally detached and emotionally stunted. It also feels akin to something like cowardice, too. But, that’s the modern age isn’t it? We all do it, don’t we? Delete, block, delete, block…

Until there’s no one or nothing left TO delete or TO block, anymore.
