The Passing of Queen Elizabeth and “Soft Power” for Women…

--

I searched for quite some time online before deciding on these particular images of Queen Elizabeth. The one on the left, in black and white, showing her at a glamourous younger age, and the one on the right, showing her as a graceful elderly woman…both of them show what many have spoken of with regards to her having a “twinkle” in her eyes.

I like that…

So, I’m an avowed Anglophile. I always have been. I always will be.

So much so, that I will be marrying an Englishman and moving to the UK sometime next year. I often say that England is my “spiritual home.”

And here’s why: the tremendous outpouring of grief and yet also, an immense, civilized and graciousness abounds in all aspects of English society. Whether or not a person is a “Monarchist”, I can say from first hand experience of being present this past summer at the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee I was shown in a very visceral way “how” the English people behave with incredible decorum. If one would ever doubt this, one only has to watch the speech that King Charles gave upon his oath, wherein he quoted from Shakespeare at the end: “May flights of angels sing thee to thy rest” — are there ANY American types who would have the slightest urge to even THINK to utter such a sentiment at a most sad forlorn event?
