“The Nose Knows”
So, for anyone who may be wondering why I have not posted anything as of late, I recently had a combination procedure of septoplasty to repair a deviated septum, a turbinate reduction and also included in the “three for one” deal that is modern healthcare in the US, a procedure which opened my maxillary sinuses. This is all due to having yearly chronic sinus infections, which have interfered with my life greatly and caused me to have a tremendous impact on the quality of my day-to-day life overall.
I am now almost two weeks since my outpatient procedure and here’s what I am experiencing (apologies in advance for any grossness here, but it’s the truth of what this surgery is like). It’s very difficult to explain to others who have not had the procedure, but I’ll do my best to detail the resulting effects.
The day of the surgery itself took FOREVER. I was told to arrive at 8 AM and yet, I wasn’t taken back to the operating room until after noon that day. The procedure itself lasted almost two hours and I’m not sure how long I was in recovery afterwards. Much to my (wonderful) surprise, I did NOT bruise as I was so afraid that I would as I’ve always bruised easily. Of course, by the time I returned home, the anesthesia had not yet worn off so I felt pretty good, all things considered. My ENT had prescribed pain medication for me in case I needed it, but I elected not to use it and instead…
