“The Golden Bachelor”

So, I’ll just start by saying that prior to “The Golden Bachelor” I never watched the franchise. And now that I’m three episodes in, I’m not sure that I want to continue BUT I’m now “hooked” I suppose, and I’m curious to see where this leads. Most of us at this point know the basic facts: for the first time, here’s an older man with older women looking for “love.”

It’s absolutely wonderful to see older women being represented in this way.

That part has been absolutely delightful.

What has NOT been so delightful is to see that, no matter the age, women are apparently absolutely desperate for a man, albeit a nice kind and handsome man. The third episode was particularly disquieting as one of the women, Kathy, seemed to be on the verge of an almost emotional meltdown at the thought of not getting a rose — yes, the rose “ceremony” is still intact on this show — and maybe that’s the keyword here -”show” — as it’s obviously scripted and mined for maximum dramatic impact of course.

I value and respect these women and their life experiences and what they have been through and have come out the other side — still wanting love.

We ALL want love, or most of us, anyway. The definition of what that love “means” will vary from person to person. But what bothers me about this show is that it has an almost…
