Student Loan Forgiveness? Bah, Humbug!!
When I think of the Republican Party, I am reminded of various characters from the Victorian era writings of Charles Dickens and the absolutely horrid economic conditions that people, including children, were forced to work under. At the time, decades ago now, reading these works in school seemed SO very far removed from actual life, that it was difficult to imagine or envison, but, thanks to a Trump appointed judge in Texas (OF COURSE it would be Texas! How could it not be? It’s almost too perfect) that sense of palpable relief that SO many of us were feeling has now dissipated.
As Carrie Bradshaw might say: “And Just Like That”…it’s gone, baby…
Now, here’s the thing: I was very fortunate that my undergraduate degree was paid for by my father; the loan debt that I have now is from my graduate degree in Humanities which, I think if I lived in a country (and thankfully, later this year, I WILL be living in such a country) that both appreciates and values art, history and the humanities in general, perhaps this would not be such a problem, BUT for right now, I am here in the U.S. which, sad…
