So, This Happened…

This past weekend, I did some grocery shopping. Simple enough, right?

Well, yes and no. Really, more no. Because of, strangely enough, a man in a convertible sports car and his dog (I assume it was his dog, at least anyway)

As I’m leaving the store with my groceries and pushing the cart (usually I just have a tote that I use, but this time I had a few more items) this man called out to me, “My dog can’t stop looking at you” — I laughed (why?) and said “Oh, thank you” and continued towards my car. I unloaded my groceries and as I was walking the cart back (I always try and do this) he then said “My dog likes the pink in your car” — again, I just kept on walking and said “Thank you” but I began to feel a bit creeped out because firstly, as much as I absolutely LOVE dogs and often believe them to be smarter than many people, I was also fairly sure that the dog itself was not directly speaking to me. Secondly, it just began to feel like a strange violation really.

I mean, there I am, on what is a very hot and humid day, just trying to take care of some basic needs, and I am suddenly caught up in some guy USING his, by all appearances, very sweet looking dog to…I don’t know…try to engage with me in some way, perhaps? It was just weird and strange.

As I got into my car, I made sure that both doors were locked and I sat there a few minutes…
