So, President Biden now has Covid

What happens next?

That’s a very good question. He’s taking Paxlovid and has “mild symptoms.”

Here’s what bothers me about all of this.

Firstly, I hope he recovers as no one should have to endure this illness.

But, because of the “way” that this pandemic has unfolded and been handled from the outset, to use my British friend Max’s use of the phrase “cack handed” has never been more clear. We are all, ON OUR OWN.

As is SO very typical in America, this sort of “individualistic” spirit is also paradoxically what seems to now be dooming us to a future of not just Covid but strange variants that keep emerging because as a country, we could not be united in our efforts to eradicate this, but rather divided. And, as a result:

We’ve all been forced, in some ways, to become our own personal medical doctors; navigating the vast and overwhelming amount of information being presented to us on a never ending basis — with SO not helpful phrases bandied about like: “Individual risk assessment” — “Talk to your doctor” — and “It really depends on where you live” — REALLY???
