Okay, Umair — You’re Unhappy About The UK — And Understandably So…

--

BUT — perhaps a more nuanced approach might be something to consider?

Village of Rye, UK — May 2022

When I first joined Medium, like many others have stated, I immediately began reading both Umair Haque and Jessica Wildfire. In all honesty, I became a bit obsessed with both of them, as I believed (and still do) that they are both excellent writers, each in their own unique individual ways.

After a while though, as many others have already expressed, I began to sense, if not a repetitive motif of sorts, the sinking in my heart type of feeling that, even though they were both obviously passionate about the topics they chose to write about, that, if left to my own devices and tendencies to anxiety, that perhaps reading them, with almost bated breath, on a daily basis, was beginning to take a toll on me, both mentally and emotionally — NOT because what they were writing wasn’t valid, but rather that, I think most of us NEED to believe in something, or, at the very least, to have SOME kind of…dare I say, hope, maybe, for improvement?

I still read each of them, albeit, not every single day, but Umair in particular, seems to have fixated on the UK in quite a few of his recent essays, which is, of course, understandable, as there has been A LOT to write about, think upon, and reflect with regards to Great Britain.
