The talented, beautiful and powerful ladies above are, from the back upper left: Debbie Harry (Blondie), Viv Albertine (The Slits), Siouxsie Sioux (Siouxsie and the Banshees), Chrissie Hynde (The Pretenders), Poly Styrene (X-Ray Spex), and Pauline Black (The Selecter). I am in LOVE with this pic.

Being a creative woman is HARD. Especially in a male dominated white centric culture. This applies also to other spheres of life, of course, too.

“Tech Bros” are a thing, after all.

But I think especially, when it comes to the Humanities, women artists, writers, musicians, have such a fine line to balance between being taken seriously and also having to deal with either being muses to other better known male artists (the list is endless) OR having to hear repeatedly about how “hot” they are (Debbie Harry being a prime example. I saw Blondie in concert back in the mid 2000’s and she was totally smoking hot then, too).

Something occurred to me though, when reflecting on all the many areas that women still struggle (of course, it goes without saying that all of this is separate from the horrid overturning of Roe v Wade) — I’m speaking more about women and creativity and being able to be recognized, appreciated and valued for it. What I’m about to write may seem like a total paradox.
