“I’m So Bored With the U.S.A.”
This is going to be the week of The Clash for me, because it is very reflective of how I am feeling right now. Also, apart from being a goth back in the day, I was also a bit of a punk rocker too, and I’ve always adored The Clash, as well.
So, this year has but nothing but an emotional rollercoaster for me and I’ve never liked roller coasters but, here I am, on one, seemingly careening out of control and no one, it appears, is there, much less seems to care, to stop it.
Where to begin with all this? When I lost my job earlier this year, trying to navigate the “social services” in this country, has been a labyrinth of confusion and utterly unbelievable incompetence which basically meant that I ended up doing people’s jobs for them (correcting their mistakes, without any compensation) and to add further insult to injury, the inescapable fact that, government employees could mess up unabated with no repercussions at all.
Meaning — they still somehow managed to have jobs, and yet I didn’t.
“Welcome to America” — hence, this particular song.
There was actually an interesting piece about this very thing not long ago:
