I’m Feeling Conflicted About Voting (Again)
Another writer here on Medium, Mr. Jeffrey Goodman, was kind enough to write a recent article in response to my question posted to him which posited how voting “feels” rather futile right now. To give a bit of background to all of this: I was brought up in a staunchly Democratic family. In fact, when my father retired, he and a former business partner created a political consulting firm together and he would talk a lot to me about the various Democratic candidates that he and his partner were helping in various elections. He really loved this kind of work, and so it was instilled in me from a very young age, to have a tremendous respect and regards for the Democratic Party, so much so, that I resolutely avoided dating any Republican men (a good choice, as it turns out, so “Thanks, Dad, really”).
Much more than I could ever hope to extrapolate and/or distill, Mr. Goodman does a tremendous job of breaking down EXACTLY why the very idea of “voting” does, in fact, feel like a very futile effort. It has helped me to realize that I am NOT alone in how I am feeling right now. Many of us feel this way.
