“If You Enjoy Horror Films, You’ll LOVE Living in America”

I first saw the original “Suspiria” film years ago with my friend, Karen, who herself had first seen it when she was a film student at UCLA many years ago.

She thought I would be interested in it, given that I was a former ballet dancer, and that the plot of the film takes place at a Ballet Academy.

And wow, was I in for a shocker! For anyone who has not seen it, I highly recommend it, just for the sheer artistry of the visual elements, alone.

Although, having said that, as a fan of horror films, I’m also still trying to recover from viewings of Ari Aster’s films “Hereditary” and “Midsommar.”

BOTH of those films really messed with my head after viewing them, which I suppose was the point. But, here’s the thing: all of these films were FICTION.

As in: NOT REAL (I’m pretty sure, at least, although some of the images from them are burned into my mind in ways that I would rather not revisit, at all).

But, this personal liking of horror films on my part, according to studies I have read, all seem to suggest that it’s a way to live “vicariously” close to danger without having to actually EXPERIENCE the danger itself…makes sense…
