I Have Been (Happily) “Spirited” Away
This one is for the Romantics
I’m not quite sure how I managed to miss the Australian show “Spirited” but over the past weeks I’ve been bingeing on it and I am utterly enchanted with it
It’s an “oldie but goodie” which ran from 2010/2011. It’s currently available on Amazon although when I watched it, it was on Prime but now it’s listed as “IMD” with commercials which is a bit of a drag but still, its very much worth watching as in a strange kind of way, it can serve as a bit of a metaphor for what the last two years have been like for so many of us: the social distancing, the uncertainty, and I think especially, the very real (and very human) desire for connection with one another and no, I don’t just mean sex, sorry about that.
Although — no, I’m NOT sorry about that, actually, because what “Spirited” shows us in beautiful and incandescent ways is what it REALLY means to love someone fully, completely and especially, I think, what most of us really want:
TO BE SEEN. TO BE HEARD. TO BE LOVED.
The story is an updated modern take on the beloved film “The Ghost and Mrs. Muir” I suppose but it’s different in that for one its protagonist is a sexy as hell former punk rocker who has all the swagger and dry sardonic wit of a straight Oscar Wilde…ooh, the way this man glides down the corridors in his punk get up which reminds me a bit of Adam Ant minus the facial make-up. He’s HOT.
