I Believe Haz…
So, I’m not quite halfway through the book by Prince Harry, Duke of Sussex, or any of his “other” names as evidenced by his delightful interview with Stephen Colbert (see link below) and I am very much enjoying it.
Just a quick view of the reactions on You Tube actually helps to confirm my belief that he is telling the truth. Why? Well, a few reasons, actually.
One of them being simply this: in my personal experience, people do not have meltdowns over something that doesn’t…in some way…hit a nerve…
Also, having recently been the pointed target of a very hostile, toxic and now (thankfully) prior workplace, it’s quite easy for me to both “see” and “feel” the full impact of what Harry is speaking about — all the phrases and all the associated fears, all of it, are right there, on the surface, palpable.
At my now former job, I spoke out (respectfully) against procedures and behaviors that I knew were either (a) incorrect or (b) disrespectful. I thought that I was “fighting the good fight” for both myself and also my colleagues as well. I believed this with every fiber of my being. Truly.
One of Harry’s comments really resonated with me: “Silence is betrayal.”
It’s betrayal because it implies a tacit agreement. It’s betrayal because there is zero responsibility of accountablity taken. Mostly…
