Hi there. I am also one of those women with dense breast tissue as well as having fibrocystic breasts (meaning if I have too much caffeine, it will make my breasts sore and tender). As to your question about having a marker placed, yes, that happened to me after my very first mammogram, and I was even told that I may receive a call back because it was my first mammogram, and there would be no other images to compare it to. I did indeed receive the call back and had another mammogram and was advised that I should have a biopsy as there were microcalcifications. I remember experiencing incredible pain during the biopsy, so so much so that it made me cry. Thankfully, the biopsy was benign, and it was classified as a fibroadenoma, I’m guessing like me, you were not asked if you wanted a marker, but rather just told afterwards that a marker had been placed. I’m not really aware of having any enhanced pain in that area, although the left breast in which this occurred is the most fibercystic one anyway. What I do often experience is every year when I have a mammogram the technician will always ask me about the marker or say that she can see it as she’s taking the images. I don’t really like having it there, but to my understanding, it is placed there so that, the radiologist interpreting the mammogram perhaps will spend more time studying that area, at least that is what I hope. Many hugs to you 💐
