“Because I Could Not Stop for Death, Wiz Khalifa Kindly Stopped for Me”
I’m a bit late to watching “Dickinson” on Apple TV (shout out to my bestie, Cheryl, who generously allows me to be part of her Family Sharing plan).
It’s a very modern take on the young Miss Dickinson: rebellious, strong-willed, and organizer of opium parties. Oh, how I wish I could have attended.
As I feel I would have “fit in” quite nicely — beautiful gowns — dances — poetry
It’s refreshing to see a show that presents Emily Dickinson as a young woman to be reckoned with; instead of the shy, retiring recluse who never left her home but managed to leave behind an astonishing 2,000 poems hidden away.
I’m not sure how much, if any of this, is “accurate” per se, but it’s really lovely to see what I imagine the “spirit” of Emily to have been — her heart, mind and soul are all on display here. Her passions, her longings, her desires for others.
Wild nights — Wild nights!
Were I with thee
Wild nights should be
Our luxury!
Futile — the winds -
